Winter Maternity Wear Trends for 2014
With winter on its way, you’re going to need some maternity outfits to keep you and your growing bub warm and snug, and looking good! From rich colours to textured fabrics, we’re noticing some lovely new trends in maternity wear for winter.
Bold and bright tones look like being a hit for this autumn and winter. Cobalt, fuchsia, orange and cherry should be popular, along with jewel tones like emerald green, teal and crimson.
For those who like a more pastel palette, softer tones such as lavender, dusty rose and ice blue are also in, as well as more neutral tones like camel, dove-grey and charcoal. Black has often been popular in winter, but grey looks like becoming the new black for this year.
Recommendations: Vogue Australia recommends wearing bright electric colours to lift your mood, and some pretty floral prints to embrace your girlie side.
Chunky textures look like being a hit this winter with cable and popcorn knits, sweater dresses, and thick textured coats. Lacy textures are also in-style right now, with lace panels and overlays adding some feminine glamour.
Tip: Add texture with maternity tights - these will keep your legs warm and change the look of your existing outfits.
Some of the shapes for this year include the shift dress – one that hangs loose from the shoulders, and the empire-line dress, which has the waistline just under the bust.
For keeping warm, Vogue recommends a cape or even a men’s-style coat for maternity wear.
Recommendations from Vogue for maternity must-haves include a crisp white shirt with some colourful jewels, jeans worn with an oversize jumper, and some comfy flats, and investing in a pair of sturdy but chic boots.
