Ready for cup day?

Yes, the hats are back. If you doubted that Spring was here, one look at the luscious hats and fabulous fascinators in your local department store would announce that the Spring racing season is well underway. We just don’t do the hat thing much anymore, which is why this time of year is so much fun for the fashionably minded. And one look at the offerings from top Melbourne milliners like Serena Lindeman has me inspired. Only at the races, darling.

The focus on fashion at Flemington with the Fashions on the Field competition started 40 years ago in an attempt to encourage women’s attendance at the race track. These days competition is so fierce that media attention is often focused more on women’s fashion than on what is happening at the track. With a SAAB 9-3 Convertible on offer as the major prize it’s no wonder the ladies (and men) are interested. Whether or not you’re keen to compete in a fashion competition, dressing up for a trip to the races has become something of an institution for many, and it’s certainly one of the best chances you’ll get to wear that extremely frivolous but undeniably fabulous hat…

Melbourne Cup Day is 4th November this year, so it’s time to get to work on the perfect outfit. Things in the racing world were a little quiet last year due to the equine ’flu outbreak, but this year’s season is back on track and bigger and better than ever! Whether you’re just showing or in your final weeks, Queen Bee is the place to shop for a fabulous frock for race day.

For those who prefer natural fabrics, our linen wrap dress with crochet ruffle detail is perfect for a day at the races, while this beautiful lemon yellow Heaven Sent Sundress in pure cotton will take you to the races in style and keep you cool right through summer too. If you like the idea of something satin-soft, have a look at this satin shift dress in steel blue. Plenty of room to grow, but without compromising on fashion. The Sunday Rose Satin Trim Dress in chocolate brown is also sleek and stylish, and if you fancy being pretty in purple, you can’t go past the Ava Dress from SOON in Melbourne. For Spring wear florals and patterns make a bold statement too. Try our gorgeous red and white silk Bell Sleeve dress, or the Green Daisy Front Tie Dress.

Now all you need is the perfect hat…

Enjoy race day!
