Feeling Relaxed and Looking Good When Pregnant

Posted on 30/04/2013 in Well-Being

After the initial moments of celebration and excitement of becoming pregnant, it won’t be long before you start experiencing the discomfort that comes along with it. The nausea, fatigue and bloat will start to catch up with you, not to mention the burden of an increasingly heavy belly. Of course, pregnancy is also a time for women to feel beautiful and special despite the discomfort. If you’re not sure if that is even possible, then read on for some tips for feeling and looking your best throughout the nine months.

Clothes

Finding the right maternity clothing is the best way to feel and look your best during pregnancy. Purchase a few items that will complement your changing body in all the right ways while staying loose and comfortable on your growing frame. Get a comfortable pair of pants, a few maternity tops and a dress or two that will show off your curves and help you feel more comfortable. There is so much maternity fashion out there these days that it’s easy to find something that suits your style and budget.

Footwear

While flip-flops may be comfortable for everyday use, you’ll need a lot more support for your feet if you will be doing a lot of standing and walking during your pregnancy. Flats and wedges are great options for women who want to ease the strain on their feet and look stylish at the same time. Leather shoes in particular will stretch to accommodate your feet when they start to swell, and flat shoes will help to ease the back pain that is common during pregnancy.

Lingerie

It’s all about comfort when it comes to pregnancy lingerie, and many women find themselves needing a more supportive bra as their pregnancy progresses. Special maternity bras are a great option, as are athletic bras that provide a lot of comfort. For the lower half, high quality cotton underwear will go a long way to keeping you feeling fresh and cool. Investing in a pretty silk nightgown may be the key for beating those “I feel fat” days, and a large pair of soft flannel PJs are perfect for sheer comfort.

Your body

Hands down the most important product to have during your pregnancy is lotion. Keeping your skin moisturised will reduce the appearance of stretch marks and will minimise the itchy feeling that comes with growing bellies, breasts and hips. A trip to the spa or salon will also do wonders for your aching muscles and tired feet, and will help emotionally as well. Having polished nails and hair will make you feel more pulled together and beautiful. Not only that, but a comfortable body pillow will support your growing belly, helping you get more rest at night.

Morning sickness

Most women get morning sickness, and some get morning, noon and night sickness as well. For the most part, the right diet can help alleviate pregnancy-induced nausea, and your gynaecologist or nutritionist can help create a meal plan for you. Of course, you might need to experiment with different foods, and don’t be afraid to stick with something that works. For instance, many women find that crackers and ginger helps, while some find that sucking on candy works, too! If food isn’t helping, consider trying acupressure bands to reduce the discomfort.
