Instructions
- hold the birth comb with the teeth positioned just below where your fingers meet your palm and gently squeeze as needed during labour
- using the Gate theory, gently squeezing the comb in this manner helps distract from and reduce the childbirth pain signals sent to the brain
What is the Gate Theory of Pain Control?
- The Gate Control Theory contends that the spinal cord has "gates" that can block pain signals or allow these signals to be sent through to the brain.
- If you bump into a table, a common reaction is to rub the area. The sensory touch of rubbing "closes the gates" and the brain receives this stronger signal and doesn't pay as much attention to the first pain signal of bumping into the table.
- The researchers also found that emotions and expectations can also affect our perception of pain. If you are with friends and are happy and bump into a table, you may not really notice it and just brush it off. If you are feeling lonely and upset and bump into a table, then the pain perceived may feel worse and more intense.

Return policy
- Returns must be received within 30 days of the invoice date (40 days for international customers).
- Items must be unworn, unwashed and in their original condition and packaging, with labels attached.
- When returning a bundled set, all items in the bundle must be returned.
- Full priced items are eligible for a refund (this includes items purchased with a promo code).
- Products marked 'on sale' in our clearance section here will receive a store credit only. Store credits are valid for 12 months.
Items that can't be returned
- Hosiery, compression hosiery and socks, and underwear briefs
- Skincare, nursing pads, maternity pads, teas and personal care items
- Swimwear can only be returned if the hygiene protection sticker is intact due to health and safety reasons
