How Does a Nursing Bra Work?
Nursing bras have a few different mechanisms for easy breastfeeding access: pull aside, front opening, or drop down clips.
Pull Over Nursing Bra
The pullover style is generally found on nursing sleep bras and feature easy pull aside nursing access in a stretchy fabrication. Popular styles include the Sara, Sonata and Erika bras.
Front Opening Nursing Bras
Our Kayla, Rosa and Elora style bras have a convenient front fastening with a smooth back. This makes them easy to put on, comfortable to sleep in and allows for that all important skin-to-skin contact with your baby during feeds.
Nursing Bras with Drop Down Clips
Drop down clips are the most common method for breastfeeding access. These feature a clasp at the top of the cup which you undo and then pull the cup down.
So you don’t lose the strap, there is a strip of fabric joining the strap with the base of the bra called a side sling. For larger cup sizes, there is usually a triangular frame around the cup called an a-frame with more bust coverage and support.
Seamless Nursing Bras
A flexible stretchy nursing bra is recommended when breastfeeding as your bust size will fluctuate and increase as your milk is produced and decrease after feeding or expressing. A seamless nursing bra offers a smooth, comfortable and supportive fit and as they are a seamless knit they can stretch a few cup sizes. Wire-Free Nursing Bras
Why can’t I wear an underwire bra? Due to the fluctuations in breast size when breastfeeding, an increase in size can cause a rigid underwire to put pressure on the breast which can increase the chance of blocked milk ducts leading to mastitis.
