The Perfect Pair of Black Pants for Work

A good work pant is essential in every wardrobe. They must be comfortable, stylish and versatile. Any personal stylist will say that a good work pant should work with virtually any top or blouse that you have in your wardrobe. Even more so during a pregnancy when your wardrobe is sometimes limited.

How to choose the best pair of black maternity pants for work? Let's start with the fabric.

Cotton is a very versatile natural fabric and is perfect for all seasons.

Brushed cotton has a suede-like texture and is great for cooler weather.

Ponte (or ponti or Ponte de Roma) is a double knit interlock fabric or heavy jersey fabric. It has firmness and holds it shape but still has a bit of give and maintains comfort. These are commonly used for treggings and are popular for travelling as they are quite wrinkle and crease resistant.

Polyester/Viscose blends are commonly used for suiting and these feel the most like regular non-maternity suit pants.

Bengalin (or bengaline) is a woven fabric. It has a very fine crosswise rib with a slight sheen and is matte on the reverse side. Stretch bengaline is often found in maternity clothing due to its structure and stretch for comfort and ease. It does have a little swish when you walk and is best suited for cool or dry climates.
